Tammy Turner in Hairspray (1988)
Tammy Turner is Corny Collins' assistant on his show on WYZT.
Hairspray (1988)[]
Tammy Turner is a middle-aged woman with blong hair that she wears in either a bun or a beehive style. She leads the judging panel during the auditions for the open spot on the show. It is implied that she and Corny are dating or, at the least, sleeping together.
Hairspray (2007)[]
Tammy Turner is only a named role in the original Hairspray (1988). Although the assistant role is present in the 2007 remake, the assistant is not officially named. This unnamed assistant, however, performs most of the same duties as Tammy Turner, minus the audition sequence which became "(The Legend of) Miss Baltimore Crabs" and led by Velma Von Tussle. The unnamed assistant even wears her hair similarly to Ms. Turner.
Corny's assistant in the Hairspray (2007)
In the 2007 remake, Corny's assistant is a younger redhead. During "The New Girl in Town", she seems to take satisfaction in Velma's frustration at Tracy gaining votes for Miss Teenage Hairspray faster than Amber.
When preparing for the show, just before "The Nicest Kids in Town" starts, Corny is seen smacking her on the butt. When she turns around, Corny pretends to be innocent and makes the sign of the cross.
Trivia[]
Tammy Turner is not to be confused with Tammy, a teenage council member on The Corny Collins Show.
