Sketch is a student at Patterson Park High School and a council member on The Corny Collins Show.
Role[]
Sketch is first seen getting ready to perform on The Corny Collins Show. He is introduced during, "The Nicest Kids in Town." Like in the musical, he appears after Brenda and before Shelley. When introduced, he slicks his hair back using both hands.
When Tracy and other girls enter the studio to audition, Sketch is seen rehearsing with Velma Von Tussle and the other council members.
He is later seen dancing with Brenda at the record hop. During "Ladies' Choice," he and some of the other male council members break off from their partners to dance with Tracy while she does "The Peyton Place After Midnight."
The stage age for this role is 16-19.
Songs[]
Sketch participates in the following songs, either dancing or as part of the chorus. He has no solos.
- The Nicest Kids in Town
- (The Legend of) Miss Baltimore Crabs
- Ladies' Choice*
- (It's) Hairspray
- You Can't Stop the Beat
*Sketch only participates in "Ladies' Choice" in Hairspray (2007) and Hairspray Live! This is because "Ladies' Choice" originated in the 2007 film, not the musical.
Trivia[]
- Brad, Brenda, Fender, IQ, Lou Ann, Shelly, Sketch, and Tammy are the standard Corny Collins members for nearly all versions of Hairspray.
- Sketch is the only male council member to appear in every standard version of Hairspray, but not in the original 1988 film.
- Tammy and Brenda also do not appear in the original 1988 film, despite being standard members of the council in all other versions.
