Linda Hart is an American singer and Broadway actress. She originated the role of Velma Von Tussle for the Broadway production of Hairspray.

Linda began her career in 1957 when her family landed a televised gospel series called The Harts.[1] They landed a deal with Columbia Records, eventually being nominated for a Grammy.[1] Dreaming of an acting career, Hart and her family moved to California so she could attend Hollywood High School, where Carol Burnett had attended.[2] She later joined Bette Midler's Harlots, a group of backup singers that toured with Midler.[2] Hart performed as part of "The Staggering Harlots" in Bette! Divine Madness, a concert film about Bette Midler.[3]

Hart has since performed in a number of musicals, originating roles in both Hairspray and Catch Me If You Can.[4] In Catch Me If You Can, she played Carol Strong, the mother of Brenda Strong played by fellow Hairspray-alumni, Kerry Butler.[5]
