The Gym Teacher is a character in Hairspray. Described as sadistic, she enjoys playing the girls off one another and inciting bullying and violence during activities like dodgeball.
In the musical, her role is most often combined with that of the prison Matron and Prudy Pingleton into the role of Female Authority Figure.
In Hairspray Live, she also fills in the role of the Principal by giving Tracy detention and placing her in special ed.
